Sonya Muhammad is a marriage, family, and child counselor. She received her Masters Degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, an Educational Counseling Certification from the University of LaVerne, and an Administrative Credential also from the University of LaVerne, in LaVerne, California. Ms. Muhammad is currently an adjunct professor at the University of LaVerne. Ms. Muhammad has devoted over 25 years to working with children who have difficult behaviors and other life struggles, and the last 12 years of her professional life have been dedicated to working with foster youth residing in out of home placements. A recent Miami Herald article reported that a third Florida foster child has committed suicide and is the third in less than a year for Florida’s foster care system.
